Super Joe!

I just remembered that i never got around to uploading Super Joe when it was complete. I was hoping it would get submitted to the RTS awards after the summer but the Tutors basically said it wasn't good enough and ignored it, quite annoying and discouraging really. I held off uploading it because we were going to submit it into some competitions and festivals but we didnt get anywhere with it, so here it is in all its glory!

Its probably the most complete film ive made so far, and even though the after effects work might be shoddy, it works in the style of a cheesy 60s superhero type vibe that we were going for and its only a small fraction of the film. I was actually really proud of it and it was probably the most heart and soul ive put into any of my work, and the audience response when it got shown in the cinema was fantastic. The audience seemed to get the type of humour it was and it generated alot of laughs. It definitely seemed to be the favourite of the night, which i guess to me was a bigger win than having the tutors approval of how "good" it was.

The Heist

The Heist was a film i made for my Minor Project in my final year of University. It was supposed to be a personal project where each member of the group had to direct a film each, I'd had this idea for a while with a friend, and figured it would be simple enough for me to organise and shoot by myself, I only needed Craig and Chris to step in as Camera Op and Sound Op, and they did a good enough job! In return I camera op'd for both of their projects. Now it wasnt a huge project like Super Joe was and I honestly didnt really think about blogging about it, Not much happens in my life to be worth blogging about in between my filmmaking and photography phases.

Now, personally i'm really happy with how this film turned out, it was pretty much exactly how I imagined it, besides a couple of more over-the-top stunts that were in the script that we had to work around/cut out, and I never found the time to Film a minor scene on an office location that i'd forgotten about and the actors lived quite a way away so it was impractical to get them back for a tiny shoot. I think the film works on its own merits and my actors all loved it, its so far become my most popular film on my YouTube channel too!

Back to work!

Had a nice easter break, was nice to take it slow after how hectic it got towards the end of last term!

Saw some fantastic films. Danny Boyle's Trance being my favourite film this year so far. Side Effects and The Croods were also great. I also sat through The Host, Jack The Giant Slayer, and Spring Breakers, none of which i really liked. saw Oblivion on my birthday too, it was disappointing but there seems to be some good Sci-fi coming out this summer to make up for it. I think once Super Joe is out the way i'll start reviewing all the movies i watch over the summer to keep me busy!

A couple photographs i got on a nice day, Meet my little sister Evie. I need to get back into my photography again!

Back to work anyway, got Professional Studies to get out the way this week, then its nothing but Super Joe until we finish for the summer! I'll keep you guys updated!

Shoot went great!

Sunday was bloody freezing, but we got through it. we lacked our extras so we may have to go back and shoot more after the Easter holidays since some of the smaller scenes are missing, same can be said for the other 2 days actually. Extras were what let us down since there's alot of small roles in the film. The alleyway stuff turned out pretty good, and so did the Office scenes between Joe and The Boss, Pete Noble is fantastic! The Studio stuff could be hit or miss, we didn't have a whole lot of space since one of the other students is building a set in there. thankfully the studio can be used anytime so there's opportunity to re-shoot, im also not 100% happy with the costume, it lacks a logo on his chest.

The film is now about 80% in the bag though, and everyone has done a great job. Had a little look at the footage but Editing will have to wait until after the Easter Holidays, should be fun.

Lunch after a hard mornings work!

Some great footage, looking forward to the edit!

Had a rehearsal, Shooting on Sunday!

we got all the crew together today for a rehearsal, it was great. Chris Griffiths is playing Joe, even though he wasn't my first choice Id've liked Paul or Andy but neither are available anytime soon, Chris was great to have as a backup anyway. and Pete Noble our Boss, read through was great and i let them know what the plan was. everything's set to go. Alex showed us the costume in progress, it should be finished next week but Chris tried it on anyway.

Found a new office!

The Office has quite possibly been the hardest one to find, wive been to the CNE, Durham and Hartlepool councils, and Teesside University and none of them could help us, today Mike B told us about the Creative Lodge over the road from our college where an office space wasn't being used, is big and spacious meaning we can get the camera everywhere, and the desks are sectioned off, its pretty awesome. Its a bit too big and posh for what i had in mind but its the best we've got, and doesn't cost anything. we can fit the track and dolly down the middle aisle anyway. need to move a few PC monitors and keyboards and we should be set!
