Joe, in his 30s, works in a call center and gives people
advice, now he is a nice guy who loves to help people out, whereas the rest of
his workmates, and his boss, believe in wasting people’s time as much as
possible to earn more money keeping people on the phone for longer. One day the boss calls him into his office
and gives him a warning that he isn’t doing his job the way he wants him to.
Since he actually offers the customers the best advice he can give, and his
phone calls are pretty straightforward and over relatively quickly, his boss tells
him he needs to keep people on the phone for as long as possible in order to
charge them more for the phone call.
Joe returns to his office and attempts to do what he is
told, he struggles and feels dirty for doing it.
Joe feels the need to do more good in his life outside of
his job, walking home he comes across a girl being attacked, and feels the need
to help out. When joe is doing good and helping people, he sees himself as a
bit of a superhero. And so scenes play out as joe see’s them in his head, which
is, him as his own superhero saving people, and things become over the top. He
manages to beat the attacker in this battle, and so expects the girl to thank
him. In his head this plays out like the superhero cliché of receiving a kiss,
and instead, he receives a slap in the face.
He helps a bunch of people out, Old ladies crossing the
street, broken vending machines, missing pets and modern lifes little problems.
When he goes back to his work, he decides he’s going to be
nice anyway, and he gets a call to the boss’s office. Upon entering his office,
we go inside Joe’s head again, and they both fight each other in a “Boss
Battle” when in reality his boss is having a go at him. After the battle is
over, Joe decides to quit his job and move on in life, The boss’s company goes
out of business after Joe’s departure since there was nobody decent working
there. Joe dreams of moving to the big city and achieving bigger things.
